Socks, Socks, and More Socks

Every stinkin’ morning my kids need socks (those pesky little children) and they never can “find” any socks. They have a serious problem. They suffer from, “if I can’t see it there, it isn’t there” disorder. It’s a tough one I tell ya’. To help them with their disorder, I ordered them to open up their eyes and look under their beds. What a shock! There were all of their socks! This is a heap of clean socks.
015
Now this is a mystery to me. Where in the world did their matches go? If all of the socks are out from underneath the bed, and I’ve washed all the laundry in the house, where could the matches possibly be? Maybe the sock makers ought to start selling socks in threes and not pairs. Then we could lose one and still have a complete pair.
017
We also have a problem with dogs in our house loving to bite a hole in any sock they can get their little mouths on. Like they don’t have enough toys or something!

The Governor’s Mansion and Capitol Field Trip (With 60 Third Graders!)

I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical about going to the governor’s mansion with his (Mark Sanford) recent transgressions. The outside and grounds were magnificent.

See that bubble-type thing? I have NO idea what it is! It’s not a sun flare and it wasn’t physically there when I took the picture and was not present on any other picture. Hmmmmm…..

Do you know why a lot of churches have a red door? I don’t. Let me know or I’ll google it.

Their dining area is fit for a king. It looks like a scene out of Southern Living.
036
There’s the governor. I feel sad every time I see him. His family must be hurting so much because of his actions.
037
Now that is some crown moulding!
039
There were many beautiful fabrics in the home.
040PSc
The piano is filled with pictures of the Sanford family. Makes me sad. Did I already mention that?

After the mansion tour we headed over the state house. The grounds, as usual, were gorgeous. Hydrangeas are such a beautifully stunning flower that I was so happy to be able to capture.
073
See the columns? They are monolithic, meaning they came from one stone and are in one piece. Cool!
077
That is a faux-finish for the dome.
085
I had never seen real, live lobbyists in a lobby.

This is an old, old piece of stained glass mosaic art with the  motto “Prepared in Mind and Resources” on it. 092

It was hot. Like, really hot. Charlie and a friend took a break in the shade.
129
Ahhhhh, can you smell that sweet fragrance?
137PSc

There are many magnolia trees on the grounds. Their enormous flowers amaze me.

In the end, a good time was had by all. We learned a lot and the kids were happy to be on a field trip.

First Day of Swim Team - 2010

It’s hard to believe it’s swim team time again. My second blog post ever was last year at the beginning of swim team. Click on the link below to read all about how last year’s first practice went. What a difference a year makes!

This was Ryan’s first practice. All last year he observed. He’s really come out of his shell this year and was ready to participate. I will let the pictures speak to whether or not he enjoyed himself.

Charlie had a great time too!
We looked in his folder from last summer and found a fifth place (in the entire Columbia Swim League) metal for his medley relay where he did breaststroke and a tenth place ribbon (again, in the entire Columbia Swim League) for doing freestyle in the freestyle medley. I’ll brag on him for just a moment too. Last year he was awarded the most improved swimmer of his age group! He won many first, second and third place ribbons for various races. He LOVES it!

I Heart Faces – Week 21 – Yellow

We just spent a week on the gulf coast. Our vacation plans were very wishy-washy and depended on the way the wind blew the oil. We were lucky to still be able to go on our vacation as planned because the oil was moving away from the area. When we arrived, however, they were ready to ward off any oil that did come their way. The yellow things in this picture are oil containment booms, just in case.

Seagrove Beach – Day Seven – The End

You know the movie, “The Truman Show” starring Jim Carrey? It was filmed one town over from where we were. It’s called Seaside and it was a wonderful place to take pictures.

Had to take this one for those Clemson fans out there.

This is where I want to live…”Mom’s Off Duty”!

Apparently Vera Bradley lives here.

Charlie strolls through the croquet field. You should be laughing really hard right now. Us, croquet?!!!!
057
Condiments, anyone?
062
I have an obsession with quotation marks. I’m not sure what they really mean about “organic”.  Do you?
065
This is my kind of store!
071
I’ll give you a high-five if you can tell me who this looks like.
079
Charlie fiddled with his new fishing pole for hours.

Grandma and Charlie enjoy a nice game of frisbee, or fris-a-bee as Ryan calls it.

I get this look from him a lot.

This is what a $10 ice cream cone looks like. Better take a good hard look. It’ll never happen again.
127
130
I could not capture this moment very well. Ryan’s tooth came out in a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich. I was so excited I couldn’t even take a picture properly.
134
Awwwwwww.
152
A family was having their pictures taken on the beach. I snagged this shot but felt really bad about intruding on their time. Wish I would’ve just asked if I could take some more of them. It was a gorgeous night and they all looked pretty cool in their white shirts and jeans.
158
Uncle Ron and Aunt T take a minute to pose for a picture.
159
So do grandma and grandpa.
161
So do Ryan and Charlie.
164
I got in on the action too.
165
T likes to take pictures as much as I do.

Who knew that jellyfish come in all colors and sizes? Not me!

Ignore the boogers in the nose. I would Photoshop them out, but I don’t have PSE anymore. :(

What a perfect night!

I think this shot epitomizes Ryan. He’s always on the move and usually has a stick or gun or light saber or something else in this hand.

It’s getting sad now.

This was my parting gift…a dragonfly on the beach!!

So long Seagrove Beach. We’ll see you next year!
