A Day at PAALS Camp

At I Heart Faces this week the theme is “Random Acts of Kindness” that has to do with using photography for helping other people through taking photos of ill children or sharing your photography with the less fortunate. The charity is called, “The Littlest Heroes Project”.

I am not able to give through this great organization, but our family gives in other ways. We are part of a great organization called Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services or PAALS. PAALS raises and trains service dogs for people with disabilities other than blindness or deafness. This post is about a day with PAALS. Head over to PAALS website for more information.

The Doggone Days of Summer Camp was a fun time for all. I caught up with the action on the last day.

After a week of learning some basic cues with the dogs, a trip to the mall was in order to test out their newly learned skills. Chloe isn’t super fond of the bus, but managed pretty well anyway.

Chloe listens well to a “watch me".

  Duo enjoys the bus ride.042

Look at that face!

AJ enjoys some extra love during the movie part of camp.

RC takes her work and sleep very seriously.

After camp we dropped Chloe off for a vet appointment and did a few things downtown while we were waiting. I've never quite understood this sign. Odd advertising.

Ahhh…El Cheapo. See the donkey kicking high prices. Clever.

Then on to the Richland County Public Library.

How nice to see Arthur there!

The escalators kept us busy for a long time.

Little Ryan was still for 1/3o of a second.

What a cool mural!

Charlie takes on an alligator. I think Charlie won.

Ryan takes a more peaceful approach with the animals.

The plants inside the building are unreal.

I don’t know the name of this church, but the steeple is pretty cool.

My crappy horrible suckish new camera does this now for pictures. I like purple and all, but come on! I returned said camera and don’t know what I’m going to do now. Suggestions? 157

Overheard: At the Vet

Owner: I think my dog needs a refill on his Ritalin.

Vet tech: Ummm…do you mean Rimadyl?

Made me laugh out loud, literally. I had to turn away from them I was so embarrassed!

Photo Roulette Friday 10(8)

Technically, this is photo number eight from the eleventh album, but I’m going to count is as the tenth because the new pictures I am downloading now aren’t complete…plus the eighth picture in the tenth album was actually paper-work I had to fill out and mail in and I just took pictures of it instead of using the scanner.

Sometimes I get bored. Sometimes I don’t like to eat vegetables. I didn’t want to throw this pickling cucumber away but I didn’t want to eat it either. So it got doodled on. And then I took a picture. And now it’s here on my blog. The end.

A Bit Much Perhaps

Politics: I don’t like them and I don’t discuss them (much). I know some die-hards on both sides of the fence and just have to laugh when I see something like this. As the Southerners would say, “Bless his heart”.
I’m glad I had a camera in the car to capture this.

RAW(e) – 2(6)

Here’s the deal over at Sailor & Company
You are to post the sixth picture in your second file.
This is the sixth picture in my second picture file.
It is to be completely unedited and doesn’t matter how random it is.
This picture is unedited (as if you couldn’t see that) and is pretty random.
It’s actually a reflection of the street. We have a mirror/hanger-thing by our front door and this was the reflection in it. Kinda looks like an x-ray of my arm on the right too, doesn’t it?

Absolute Favorite?

Maybe not, but it’s one of my (million) favorites. The boys LOVE the water whether it’s a lake, ocean, pool, sprinkler, bath tub or a puddle. This was taken while we were in Seagrove Beach. I mean I realize it’s just a butt and a foot and a head and part of an arm, but I just love this shot. They’re so happy to be in the water!

3-2-1 Jump!

This picture almost looks staged to me, but it’s not. I know it’s not because each of these three males down-right refuses to “pose” for any picture for me. It just makes me all the more happy when I get a great one of them like this!

Purple Rain?

Maybe he’s looking up at the sky and waiting for the purple rain to start falling.
Maybe I just don’t know what to write so I borrowed a song title that I love.
What he’s really doing is resting on a purple towel in between his swim team events.
And just maybe he’ll catch a glimpse of some purple rain.

A Day Spent at the Dam Beach is a Good Day

We spent the day at the dam beach. It was such a beautiful day. The kids had fun with some friends and I had fun talking to another mom while the kids kept themselves busy. Plus, the other mom likes to take pictures as much as I do!

We’ve got to spend more time there!

Arrghh Mateys!

“Over My Head” is the theme at I Heart Faces this week. This picture spoke to me. It has a human face (well skull, but that counts, right?) and something over the head. Maybe I interpreted this theme too literally.

As always, for some out of this world photographs, head on over to I Heart Faces now!

Columbia Swim League – City Meet

Our morning started out with my alarm clock not going off. Luckily I woke up when we were supposed to leave instead. I took the faster shower this side of the Mississippi and we were off to the meet downtown.

The USC pool has been repainted and it looks a billion times better than it did last year.

Charlie swam in five events (two relays) and Ryan swam in four events (two relays). I only have pictures of five events total. Guess I got too excited to pull the camera out for all of them! Since there were multiple heats of each race, we don’t know what the final outcome is. They gave it their all and did awesome! We’ll find out next week what their places were for sure.

       Ryan is swimming backstroke here.

   Charlie is swimming freestyle here.

Charlie swims the backstroke. This used to be his least favorite stroke but likes it alright now.

Ryan tries his hand and breastroke.

It’s so hard to believe that the season has come to an end. What will we do Monday morning (or T-F mornings for that matter)? What will we do Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights now? Don’t worry. I’m sure we’ll keep busy!

Name That Theme

These pictures are SOOC (straight out of camera shots) and not great, but there is a theme here. These were taken at EdVenture Children’s Museum. Can you name the theme?
