Christmas Lights Parade

Every year there is a nighttime Christmas parade in town. I was so excited to take some cool pictures of the lights on the floats.

But, what I really learned is that I need a good tutorial on how to take nighttime photos of lights (or anything). Do you have a good tutorial you could recommend to me?

The Sky

Genesis 1:6-8

God spoke: "Sky! In the middle of the waters;
      separate water from water!"
   God made sky.
   He separated the water under sky
      from the water above sky.
   And there it was:
      he named sky the Heavens;
   It was evening, it was morning—
   Day Two.

The past several weeks our sky at sunrise and sunset has been just glorious.

I mean, stop in your tracks, catch you off-guard, leave you awe-struck, make you forget where you are, beautiful.

I don’t remember the sky being like this. Part of me wonders if I’ve been missing it all of these years and just started really seeing the beauty since I’ve gotten into photography or if the sky has just been especially awesome lately.

Either way, I’m so happy and thankful that God gave us this sky!

My Man Ryan

I love so many things about Ryan.

His twinkling eyes.

His physical comedy.

His inability to understand anything figurative.

His warm, but fleeting hugs.

His obsession with football.

His fall-on-the-floor tiredness.

His ability to make us all fall on the floor in laughter.

He is really a stand-up little guy!

My boys love to skateboard. Yesterday Tony Hawk and his team made a surprise visit about an hour away. The big old bummer is that we didn't find out about it until they were probably on their way out of town. Man, what a huge let down. They would've loved to have seen him.

Hold Your Breath Moment

We went to an awesome skateboard demonstration last weekend. I think I was gasping for air the whole time. These boys did some amazing tricks that both awed me and scared the bejeezus out of me.

A Bit Much Perhaps

Politics: I don’t like them and I don’t discuss them (much). I know some die-hards on both sides of the fence and just have to laugh when I see something like this. As the Southerners would say, “Bless his heart”.

I’m glad I had a camera in the car to capture this.

Help Please!

Upon closing in on this creature to capture its relative hugeness, I inadvertently ruined my camera. I’m a fraidey-cat that jumps at anything that startles me. This guy jumped out at me (he was at least seven inches long) and I threw my camera about 10 feet behind me on the pavement. I wanted a new camera, but didn’t quite picture going about it in this manner.

Here’s where you come in. What kind of camera do you have? Do you love it? Hate it? Want to recommend a specific brand? My days of point and shoot are done and it’s time for me to get a big girl camera!

Really, summer just wouldn’t be complete without one. Back in the day we didn’t have slip-n-slides; we had black garbage bags staked in the ground with tent stakes with the sprinkler spraying on them!

Sweet Shot – Robin’s Egg

My mom’s yard is a photographer’s (I am using the term “photographer” here to mean anyone who enjoys taking pictures) dream. Flowers, critters, trees, vines, textures, colors, etc. make it so great. Finding this robin’s egg was a real treat. That pale blue! Ahhhhh!
