***Please don’t be too grossed out by his dirty fingernails. He is an 8-year-old boy and as much as I try to keep up with this, there was no way he was going to let me help him clean out his fingernails before he tore into his Halloween candy.***

AJ the Working Dog

Take a look at this handsome fellow! Notice his name/picture badge?

He was our weekend foster pup and is now a facility dog at a local hospital. I am so proud of the wonderful organization called PAALS that we volunteer with.

I know AJ makes so many people smile, and that makes me smile!

Stanley the Basset

My childhood dog was Charlie the Basset. I got him when I was in fourth grade and being an only child, he was like the brother I never had. The first year I was living on my own after college, Charlie was put to sleep. The sadness we all felt was immense.

Since then, I have had a lab and a mutt because I didn't think that any Basset could be like Charlie. My mom decided to rescue a Basset. His name is Stanley and he's surprisingly similar to Charlie. They are both white and brown, both howl for fun, both love critters (to chase and eat) and both are awesome companions.

This is my lovely mom and her dog Stanley.

This is my edit. I cropped it to feature Stanley's cute body, ears and eyes more and brightened up his white fur. Not earth shattering edits, but make the eye focus on him in all of his stinky splendor.

I use Photoshop Elements 8 to edit pictures.

Sunday Scavenger Hunt

Landscape

I took this one literally. My mom’s landscaping is just beautiful! It’s a tropical paradise right here in SC.

Power line

People are all about the confederate flag around here. I don’t fit in!

Newspaper

Politics anyone? Not me! I can’t stand them. “Critics argue…” is what caught my eye here. I’m of the camp of “can’t we all just get along” and feel like some people I know just really like to constantly debate and argue. It’s just not for me!

Pose

The boys were told to say cheese. We don’t normally do cheese, but to capture “pose” I wanted them to do it. One cooperated, one did not. That’s usually the way it goes around here.

Hobby

I love dogs. I love photography. I love photographing dog parts. This happens to be my second favorite dog part.

Spirit sports a red fire hat at a PAALS event. What a precious little fire fighter she is!

Homespace

Our living room and kitchen have taken on quite the transformation. This room used to be a deep green and a lighter deep green. Now it is sand colored and the former passionate plum kitchen is now skyward. I’m loving it!

Fence

Poor Jake. Life behind bars stinks!

Sharp

This man is so very witty and sharp. He has comebacks and one-liners that knock people to the floor with laughter.

Rock

My mom’s house has the most beautiful rock patio and a pretty adorable dog sitting upon it as well!

Sweet Shot Tuesday – Stanley the Basset

PAALS – Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Services

Although this is not a great or good or even adequate photo when talking about aspects of photography (clarity, lighting, composition, etc), it speaks volumes to me.

This dog (AJ) was our weekend foster dog. He will become a full-fledged service dog in about two months. This boy, who has autism, is a prospective client of PAALS. He and his mom smiled throughout the entire client session. Seeing the joy in their eyes when working with AJ made all of the trying times we had with him 100% worth it.

Being a foster family for an in-training service dog is a very rewarding endeavor. Are you up for it? If so, contact your local service dog organization and I’m sure they’d love your help!

Lesson Learned: Hyper Dogs and Lots of Water Don't Mix Well

Q: What do you get when you mix three dogs, three bowls of water and three minutes of crazy, hyper play?

A: Three piles of water vomit. Ewwwwwwww!!!

Lesson Learned: Do not give dogs water when they are hyper. They will throw up. Then you will want to throw up. Then they will eat it and you will want to throw up again. See this vicious cycle? Remember the throwing up blueberry pie incident in "Stand By Me"? That's what I'm talkin' 'bout!
